Above left: One half of the grain barn. This is where grain was threshed. Behind the barn was a field of potatoes and a garden, then a field of poppies with a creek and pond at the back. Right: The main barn. Horses were inside the right door, cows in the middle. Building on left of barn was the woodshed. Storks nested on the thatch roof of the barn. A thatch roof would last about twenty years, with maintenance.
Above left: The house viewed from the driveway. There was no grass, just broadleaf weeds left uncut. Above right: The woodshed attached to the main barn. I loved the smell of wood. Above left: My grandfather had the carpenter make me a pair of skis. I'm in the orchard, with the house in the background. Right: We are gathered by the well. The church and house were on the far side of the orchard behind us. |
